Can Nebraska ride the Dana Holgorsen wave before signing day?

Originally posted on Corn Nation.

To say that Nebraska had a coming-out party on the offensive side of the ball against Wisconsin is an understatement. It didn’t look like the same team that could barely move the ball down the field with wide receivers locked down and predictable run plays gobbled up.

It just shows you the difference a top-level play-caller makes to an offense.

Signing day is just around the corner, and some genuinely program-changing players are still in the mix for Matt Rhule’s staff. One last impressive showing on Friday against Iowa could prove to be the difference in landing some of these players.

Dylan Raiola is an enormous drawcard for young players wanting to be hitched to the wagon of a talented 5-star quarterback to be seen by NFL scouts. There is no doubt that Raiola’s arm talent is on display for all to see as a true freshman starting in the Big Ten. The surrounding pieces and play-calling have left much to be desired, but Holgorsen’s new injection of ideas has reinvigorated a mediocre offense.

Recruits like Chase Loftin, Cortez Mills, and Michael Terry III will be watching the developments closely to follow the program’s trajectory.

Should Hologorsen and Raiola put on a fireworks display in Iowa City, coupled with clarification of Hologorsen’s role going forward, it could bode well for Nebraska.

High-flying offenses around the country may have talented quarterbacks, but they also have elite skill players, which alleviates the pressure on the quarterback to make every play count.

Nebraska needs All-Conference level players who can make one-on-one plays, and this crop of recruiting talent can do just that.

Recruiting is a fickle business with so much going on behind the scenes with NIL and the coaching turnover that it is almost impossible to predict the outcomes truly. However, another big day for Nebraska would be the perfect reminder that the slumbering giant is making moves to be relevant on the national stage again.
